Nigeria Releases $21.2M for Ebola Preparedness Fund

On June 20, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria approved the disbursement of a state outbreak investigation response fund to support outbreak preparedness activities across the country as part of measures to strengthen Nigeria's readiness against the Ebola virus disease (EVD). The fund, amounting to $21.2 million per state, will be allocated with 50% released immediately.

This initiative is part of a broader federal effort to enhance national preparedness and response capacity, coordinated by the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness, chaired by Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, authorized the disbursement. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) will oversee the fund's utilization, ensuring compliance with financial management and reporting requirements.

The government aims to proactively manage public health resources to strengthen surveillance and response capabilities in the event of public health emergencies.
