Nigeria Strengthens Ebola Preparedness Measures

The Federal Government of Nigeria is intensifying its efforts to maintain the country's Ebola-free status through a comprehensive public health strategy. During an inaugural meeting of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease, chaired by Minister of Information, Moham Idri, the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional and international collaboration.

The meeting, held in Abuja, included representatives from various ministries, agencies, and development partners, such as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Although Nigeria has not confirmed any Ebola cases, the NCDC assesses the risk of importation as high due to regional population movements and international travel.

The task force aims to enhance surveillance at health facilities and promote public awareness campaigns to prevent misinformation and panic. The government emphasizes a whole-of-society approach, engaging traditional and religious institutions, media organizations, and civil society to ensure accurate communication regarding public health.
