IED Explosion in Lagos Suburb Injures One Person

On Monday, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in the Mushin area of Lagos, injuring one individual. The incident occurred at 6:22 AM on Wei Street when the victim, who had parked a Toyota Sienna overnight, started the vehicle's engine, triggering the explosion from a device concealed beneath it.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the vehicle and left the victim with minor injuries, prompting a swift response from security agencies, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit. Senior police officer Tijani Fatai, representing the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed that preliminary investigations indicated the device was planted under the vehicle.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment. EOD experts conducted a thorough sweep of the area to recover remnants of the explosive device for forensic analysis.

Fatai assured residents that the scene was certified safe and urged them to remain calm and continue their normal activities. Chief Tajudeen Lasisi Farunbi alerted the police immediately after the blast and advised residents to avoid the damaged vehicle until security operations arrived.
