Lagos Police Classify Mushin Blast as Mechanical Explosion

On June 22, a blast occurred on 19 Street in Mushin, Lagos, which the Lagos State Police Command has now reclassified as a mechanical explosion. Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani disclosed during a press briefing that a comprehensive forensic investigation revealed no evidence of an improvised explosive device or terrorist activity.

Initial concerns about the blast led to a thorough examination by the Nigeria Police Force's Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, which included analyzing affected vehicles and evaluating physical evidence. The investigation concluded that the explosion resulted from a catastrophic failure of mechanical components located outside the vehicle, causing a sudden release of energy that shattered the front passenger side glass panel of a vehicle, resulting in minor injuries.

Tijani reassured residents that there was no link to terrorism or sabotage, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
