Bandits Attack Emir's Palace in Kwara, Abduct Ten People

On May 25, 2023, at approximately 2:00 AM, bandits launched a coordinated attack on the emir's palace in Yashikira, Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State, resulting in the abduction of ten individuals, including the wives and children of traditional ruler Alhaji Umar Seriki. The attack also targeted the Yashikira Police Division headquarters, which was successfully defended by police forces.

The Kwara State Police Command, through its public relations officer, Adetoun Ejir Adeyemi, condemned the assault, describing it as a cowardly act. The attackers arrived on motorcycles, set parts of the palace ablaze, and caused extensive property damage estimated in millions of naira.

The emir was not present during the attack. Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, ordered a full-scale tactical operation involving military and police forces to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.
