Since its inauguration, the House has faced controversies, including allegations of signature forgery and corruption probes.

In 2025, the House Committee on University Education was implicated in an alleged extortion scheme demanding N8 million from federal universities for budget passage, which the House denied without a formal public probe. Recently, internal disputes arose over forged signatures related to minority leadership nominations, ultimately resolving with Hon.

Fred Agbedi becoming the Minority Leader. Between June 14, 2023, and June 4, 2026, the House received 2,747 bills, the highest intake since 1999, with 2,595 being members' bills.

The House also considered 1,320 motions, with 460 presented as Matters of Urgent Public Importance, showcasing its legislative engagement despite setbacks.
