10th National Assembly Fails to Meet 68 Legislative Pledges

A report released by a Civic Tech Organization and Advocacy Foundation indicates that the 10th National Assembly of Nigeria has not fulfilled 68 out of 92 legislative commitments made at the beginning of its tenure. The overall fulfillment score stands at 26.8% for the House of Representatives and 44.1% for the Senate.

The assessment, conducted by the organization’s Promise Tracker platform, monitored 56 commitments made by the House and 34 by the Senate across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and economic governance. The House of Representatives fulfilled 13 commitments, with four classified as compromised and 39 broken.

The Senate delivered on nine commitments, with 12 considered compromised and 13 classified as unfulfilled. The report identifies stalled reforms, particularly in constitutional amendments and youth inclusion, as major concerns.

Habib Sheidu, Project Director of the Advocacy Foundation, emphasized the need for lawmakers to prioritize outstanding reforms as the assembly approaches its final year.
