House of Representatives Passes 363 Bills in Three Years

The House of Representatives in Nigeria has disclosed that over its three-year existence from 2023 to 2026, it has received a total of 2,747 bills, successfully passing 363 of them. This information was shared by Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee, Francis Waive, during a media briefing marking the end of the third year of the current House.

The passed bills include 57 executive bills, 95 Senate bills, and 2,595 private member-sponsored bills. The breakdown of the 363 successful bills includes 89 from the first session, 148 from the second session, and 126 from the recently concluded third session.

Specifically, the third session saw the introduction of 484 bills, comprising 31 executive bills, 391 private member bills, and 62 Senate concurrent bills. Additionally, 220 motions were considered, with 192 referred to standing committees and 28 to ad hoc committees.

The House has also noted the impact of its legislative work, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) Act, which has benefited 1.6 million Nigerians with 303 billion Naira disbursed.
