SERAP Calls for Probe into ₦78.8bn Humanitarian Funds

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO), and the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) to account for over ₦78.8 billion in public funds reportedly unaccounted for. This demand follows the 2024 Annual Report published by the Auditor-General of the Federation on 7 August 2026, which covers financial activities from January to December 2023 and ending on 31 December 2024.

SERAP requested transparency regarding ₦33.751 billion in cash transfers, ₦36.744 billion in payments made without prepayment audit, and other expenditures. The organization urged the President to ensure investigations into ₦76.24 billion at NCTO and ₦2.55 billion at NASSCO, emphasizing the need for accountability and recovery of misappropriated funds.

SERAP's letter, dated 5 September 2026 and signed by deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, warned of potential legal actions if their requests are not addressed within seven days.
