1,402 Christians Killed in Nigeria from Jan-April 2026

Intersociety, a civil rights organization, reported that 1,402 Christians were killed in Nigeria from January to April 2026, with an additional 1,800 individuals abducted during the same period. The organization claims that the persecution of Christians is escalating, with state actors allegedly involved in these violent acts.

The report, signed by Emeka Umeagbalasi, Chidinma Evangelin Udegbunam, and Obianuju Joi Igbo, indicates that the Nigerian government denies any systematic targeting of Christians. The figures include 350 deaths during the Easter period alone, with 102 deaths recorded during Holy Week from March 28 to April 4, 2026.

The report also notes that the violence has led to significant displacement, with many Christians seeking refuge in various IDP centers across the country. Intersociety emphasizes the need for international attention to the situation, highlighting the government's failure to address the ongoing violence and persecution.
