Sixteen Dead in Kogi State Road Accident

On Friday morning, a fatal road accident occurred along the Lokoja-Oken highway in Kogi State, resulting in the deaths of sixteen individuals. The crash took place at approximately 9:20 AM near Aku Village, close to Osara.

The vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number BUU 17 ZD, which was traveling to Plateau State and had 22 passengers on board, including 21 males and one female. The Federal Road Safety Corps, represented by Lawal Fagg, confirmed that the accident was attributed to vehicle fatigue, as the bus reportedly was traveling at high speed before veering off the road and plunging off a bridge.

The impact was fatal for the occupants, with 16 confirmed dead, comprising 15 males and one female. Emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived at the scene following a distress call and rescued six passengers who sustained various degrees of injury.

The injured were taken to Osara Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Ankuri Mortuary in Lokoja. The command issued a safety advisory urging road users to remain cautious and comply with traffic regulations.
