16 Dead, 5 Injured in Kogi Bus Accident

On a Saturday morning, a tragic auto crash in Kogi resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals and injuries to five others. The incident involved a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Lagos to Plateau State, which veered off the road and plunged into a ditch near a bridge.

Lawal Fagg, a representative from the Kogi sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that the crash was caused by driver fatigue and speeding. The bus was carrying 22 passengers, with 16 confirmed dead at the scene and five sustaining serious injuries.

One survivor reported that the driver had been warned to stop and rest due to fatigue but refused, leading to the fatal accident. The injured passengers were evacuated to a hospital in Lokoja for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the Ankuri mortuary.

Fagg urged motorists and road users to prioritize safety, adhere to speed limits, and avoid driving while fatigued to prevent such tragedies.
