Sixteen Feared Dead in Kogi State Road Accident

A tragic road accident in Kogi State has resulted in the feared deaths of sixteen passengers when an 18-seater commercial bus veered off a bridge and fell to the ground below. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Osara area of Adavi Local Government Area.

Lawal Fagg, the Kogi State sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident in a telephone interview. According to preliminary findings, the crash was caused by excessive speed.

Two passengers survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. The FRSC's Zariagi unit was deployed immediately to the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.

The deceased have been deposited at a morgue in Lokoja, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. This accident has raised concerns about reckless driving and road safety compliance, prompting Nigerian highway authorities to urge motorists to observe speed limits and safety regulations.
