16 Killed in Intensified Ukrainian and Russian Strikes

On Saturday, at least 16 individuals were killed due to intensified Ukrainian and Russian strikes as the war enters its fifth summer. The United Nations reported an increase in civilian casualties in the nearly four-and-a-half-year conflict.

Ukrainian drones targeted a Siberian oil refinery and the city of Yekaterinburg, with Kyiv stating these attacks aim to weaken Russia's war efforts and compel negotiations. In Russian-occupied Ukraine, a Ukrainian strike on the seaside village of Kyrylivka resulted in the deaths of eight people, including two children, according to Yevgeny Balitsky, the Moscow-installed head of the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region.

Balitsky also reported that the strike wounded 14 others. The ongoing US-led diplomatic efforts to end the fighting remain deadlocked, with Washington focused on the Middle East and Moscow seeking to seize the entirety of eastern Ukraine.
