Atiku Abubakar Challenges Tinubu Government on $16bn Probe

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly challenged the federal government led by President Bola Tinubu to investigate him if there is evidence linking him to the alleged misappropriation of $16 billion in power funds during his time in office. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused the Tinubu administration of recycling old allegations to divert attention from the economic hardships faced by Nigerians due to the removal of the petrol subsidy.

He stated that despite the allegations being raised over the years, no prosecution has occurred, and he has never been invited to answer any allegations regarding the power projects. Atiku emphasized that he chaired the National Council on Privatisation but disagreed with the implementation of the power project.

He urged the government to provide evidence and prosecute him if they have a case, asserting that propaganda cannot replace evidence. His challenge comes amid ongoing discussions about the negative impacts of the fuel subsidy removal on citizens.
