NFSS Responds to Rabid Dog Attacks in Kano Communities

In Garko Local Government Area of Kano State, at least 18 individuals have been bitten by a dog suspected to be rabid. The incidents began when the dog attacked 11 residents in Garko town and subsequently moved to neighboring communities, biting an additional seven people.

The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), through its Kano State Public Relations Officer, CSF Usman Abdullahi Umar, reported that the affected communities include Raba, Kadage, Gurjiya, and Dausai. Concerns have been raised as two other dogs are also suspected to be rabid.

In response, officers from the NFSS Garko Division, led by Divisional Forest Officer Auwalu Muhammad, have been deployed to locate and neutralize the suspected infected dogs. The operation aims to prevent further attacks and protect residents from rabies exposure.

The NFSS has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any stray dogs or animals showing signs of rabies and advised anyone bitten to seek immediate medical attention. The search operation will continue until the threat is controlled.
