Nineteen Dead in Edo and Taraba Road Accidents

Nineteen people died in two separate road accidents in Edo and Taraba states over the weekend. In Edo State, a crash occurred when a speeding truck, attempting to overtake, lost control and overturned along the Auchi-Ewu-Benin road.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Patricia Onwochei, confirmed the incident, attributing it to reckless overtaking. Eleven victims were taken to St.

Lazarus Hospital's mortuary. In Taraba State, seven people, including two minors and two women, died in a head-on collision between a commercial vehicle carrying eleven passengers and a trailer near Kabarin Baturi village.

The accident took place at 4:40 PM on Tuesday in the Gashaka Local Government Area. Haruna Lukman, an official from the Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), noted that the commercial vehicle was designed to carry six passengers but was often overloaded due to rising fuel costs and alleged extortion by security agents.
