Motsepe Vows to Respect CAS Ruling on 2025 AFCON Title

Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has called for unity and pledged to respect the ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title awarded to Morocco. This announcement was made during his visit to Senegal, where he addressed the unprecedented decision by CAF's appeal committee, which declared Morocco the winner of the final held on January 18, despite Senegal winning the match on the pitch 1-0.

The decision, announced on March 17, 2023, has sparked significant backlash within Senegal, leading to calls for an international investigation into alleged corruption within CAF. Motsepe acknowledged the challenges faced during the legal proceedings and emphasized CAF's commitment to implementing whatever decision is reached.

He also expressed a desire to work closely with Senegal's football leadership to enhance the development of football across Africa. Motsepe is expected to deliver a message during his visit to Morocco to foster a calm atmosphere amid ongoing legal disputes.
