Borno Acting Governor Signs N892.4bn Budget for 2026 After Increase from N890.3bn Proposal

The acting governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, signed a budget of N892.4 billion for 2026, which was initially presented by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the state House of Assembly on December 29, 2025. The budget underwent a subsequent review leading to an upward adjustment from N890.3 billion.

The acting governor commended the assembly for its transparency and commitment to public interest, especially considering the economic realities and fiscal pressures. The budget also included an amendment to the Local Government Law, extending the tenure of local government chairpersons and councillors from two to three years to strengthen grassroots governance and improve service delivery.

The former speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, explained that the budget review resulted in an increase of N2.37 billion.
