Nigerian Boxers to Train in Lagos for 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has invited 40 boxers, comprising 20 males and 20 females, to commence a training camp in Lagos as part of the final preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The camp is scheduled to open on May 1, 2026, at the Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah (Rtd) Box Hotel located at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, with training sessions beginning on May 2, 2026.

The selection of these boxers follows trials held in February, where finalists were identified across various weight categories. Babatunde Laguda, the chairman of the NBF Technical Committee, emphasized the federation's commitment to ensuring that the boxing contingent is well-prepared for the Games in Glasgow, Scotland, which will take place from July 23 to August 3, 2026.

Omonlei Imadu, aims to have ten boxers represent Nigeria, with a goal of securing ten medals.
