Nigeria to Face Ghana in Boxing Friendly Ahead of 2026 Games

The Nigerian boxing team is set to face their Ghanaian counterparts in a friendly match on May 7, 2024, in Accra, Ghana. This event is part of Nigeria's preparation for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

The friendly match aims to assess the athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games and will feature seven male boxers across various official weight categories. Additionally, the female team will include three boxers competing in the 54kg, 57kg, and 71kg categories.

The Nigerian contingent is scheduled to depart for Accra on Tuesday, May 5, 2024, ahead of the event. Babatunde Laguda, the Chairman of the Nigerian Boxing Federation's Technical Committee, praised the initiative as an effective evaluation of the boxers in preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
