Tinubu Sends Off Team Nigeria for 2026 Commonwealth Games

On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted a ceremonial send-off for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2. The event, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, featured a charge delivered by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who emphasized the importance of winning medals and maintaining Nigeria's image.

He urged athletes to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and avoid misconduct, including doping, warning that violations could lead to strict sanctions, including expulsion from the team. The National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, reaffirmed its commitment to providing world-class support for Nigeria's elite athletes.

The ceremony also included the unveiling of Team Nigeria's new kit by global sportswear giant Puma. A total of 74 athletes will represent Nigeria across 10 sports, with the aim of bringing glory to the nation.
