Tinubu to Send Off Team Nigeria for 2026 Commonwealth Games

On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially send off Team Nigeria as they prepare to depart for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The send-off event will take place at the Presidential Villa, demonstrating the president's support for the Nigerian contingent.

The athletes are set to begin their final preparations for the games, which will occur from July 23 to August 2, 2026. Team Nigeria aims to build on its success from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the country emerged as the highest-ranked African nation on the medal table, winning a total of 35 medals, including 12 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze.

The athletes will undergo intensive training in Abuja before departing for a three-week training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, prior to the games. President Tinubu has expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to excel on the international stage and has assured athletes of the government's support.
