ENSIEC Schedules Enugu Local Government Elections for 2026

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), led by Chairman Prof. Christian Ngwu, has announced a revised timetable for the 2026 local government elections, setting the election date for September 26, 2026. This adjustment follows the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, ensuring alignment with the new legal framework.

The commission had previously issued a notice on August 20, 2025, alongside an initial timetable. Key dates include the commencement of party primaries on January 23, 2026, and the start of campaign activities on April 29, 2026, concluding on September 25, 2026.

Candidate nomination forms must be submitted by May 29, 2026, with the final list of candidates to be published on July 27, 2026. Additionally, the submission of poll agents will close on August 31, 2026, with an official notice of the poll to be issued on September 11, 2026.

In the event of inconclusive results, a re-run election is scheduled for October 10, 2026.
