INEC Schedules By-Elections for June 20, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that by-elections will take place on June 20, 2026, to fill vacant legislative seats across six states. This date aligns with the scheduled Ekiti State governorship election.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan disclosed this information during a ceremony in Abuja, where newly sworn-in commissioner Jamila Malafa was welcomed. Amupitan indicated that the commission is preparing for a series of off-cycle elections, with multiple contests scheduled to occur simultaneously.

The by-elections will involve senatorial elections in Enugu, Nasarawa, and Ondo states, alongside contests for the Kebbi State House of Assembly and the Kano State House of Representatives. Amupitan emphasized the commission's commitment to conducting credible elections at all levels of government.

Jamila Malafa expressed gratitude for her appointment and pledged to contribute to the commission's objectives, particularly in preparation for the upcoming elections.
