FIFA Bans Assim Madibo for Five Matches After Injury

FIFA has imposed a five-match ban on Assim Madibo due to a serious foul play incident that occurred during the 2026 World Cup. The foul involved a tackle on Canadian player Ismael Kone, which resulted in Kone breaking his tibia and fibula in his left leg.

The incident took place during Qatar's 6-0 loss last Thursday, where Madibo was shown a red card. FIFA's disciplinary committee decided on the five-match ban in response to the severity of the foul.

Although there is an option to appeal the decision, the ban stands for now. Ismael Kone, who plays for the Italian team Sassuolo, underwent surgery following the injury.

Madibo, who is 24 years old, visited Kone in the hospital after the incident.
