Nigeria's FIFA Case Update After Tinubu Meeting

Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, offered a fresh update on Nigeria's ongoing case with FIFA after a high-level meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. The focus of the meeting was Nigeria's unresolved case concerning a protest submitted by the Nigeria Football Federation regarding an ineligible player from DR Congo during the African playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.

Dikko explained that the matter is still under legal review within FIFA, and the outcome remains uncertain. However, he expressed optimism about the possibility of reinstating the Super Eagles for the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March.

The sports authorities are preparing to act swiftly in accordance with FIFA rules, hoping for a favorable resolution that would reopen Nigeria's pathway to the 2026 World Cup.
