Dikko Affirms Nigeria's World Cup Qualifying Chances

Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), has stated that Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are still alive, despite growing concerns among football fans. This statement follows reports suggesting that Nigeria's hopes could be jeopardized due to the inclusion of the DR Congo in an upcoming intercontinental playoff tournament.

Earlier in the week, FIFA announced the countries competing for the final two World Cup spots, which included DR Congo among six teams. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly filed a protest concerning the eligibility of certain players in the qualifying match involving the Super Eagles.

Dikko emphasized that FIFA has not yet delivered an official verdict on the complaint and that the inclusion of DR Congo in the playoff schedule does not automatically dismiss Nigeria's petition. He expressed optimism that the rules would favor Nigeria, as the Super Eagles may still have the opportunity to compete in the playoff for World Cup qualification.
