APC Governors Strategize Against Lawmakers for 2027 Elections

Tensions are escalating within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governors move to unseat lawmakers in response to recent amendments to the Electoral Act, which they perceive as acts of disloyalty. This internal strife is part of a broader strategy as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

President Bola Tinubu expressed a desire for APC lawmakers to return to the National Assembly in 2027 during an interfaith breakfast meeting with House members led by Speaker Tajudeen Abba. The governors, particularly from the Progressives Governors Forum, are unhappy with the president's stance and feel blindsided by public declarations regarding urgent meetings.

They plan to hold a private strategy session to agree on concessions to discuss with the president, aiming to secure stronger control over the next National Assembly. The struggle intensifies as they consider replacing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and targeting three House members from Ondo State.

The governors are also pushing for constitutional amendments that would allow them to seek a third term, despite warnings from lawmakers about potential legal obstacles.
