Ganduje: Atiku, Obi Lack Northern Support for 2027

At a public event in Kano, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past national chairman of the APC, asserted that neither Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the NDC, nor Peter Obi possesses the grassroots support required in Northern Nigeria to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Ganduje argued that the Northern region remains a decisive factor in presidential elections and that both opposition figures lack the political strength and security to mobilize sufficient support.

He expressed concern over the increasing number of registered political parties in the country and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen the registration process to ensure that political parties function effectively according to their defined ideologies. Ganduje's remarks come amid ongoing coalition talks among opposition politicians aiming to challenge Tinubu's re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
