Christian Group Urges Issue-Based Campaigns for 2027

The Christian Conscience, a non-denominational pressure group, called on politicians to conduct issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against the use of ethnic and religious sentiments. In a statement signed by National Chairman Yetunde Akinluyi, National Secretary-General Kolawole Verrals, and issued by National Publicity Secretary Tunji Oguntuase, the group emphasized that campaigns should focus on national development issues rather than violence and intimidation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the commencement of Presidential and National Assembly campaigns for August 19, 2026, and Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for September 9, 2026. The Christian Conscience urged politicians to present credible ideas regarding jobs, security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The group also appealed to political parties and candidates to reject violence and intimidation, advocating for peaceful political participation as essential for credible elections and national stability.
