G-100 Coalition Urges Opposition to Unite for 2027 Election

The G-100, a coalition of 100 prominent Nigerians, has issued a warning that the opposition risks handing President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) another victory in the 2027 presidential election unless they unite behind a single candidate. This position is articulated in an open letter titled “The Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition,” dated August 2, 2026.

The letter calls on key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to set aside personal ambitions and negotiate a consensus candidate. The G-100, which includes notable signatories such as Salihu Lukman and Nnenna Ukeje, argues that Nigeria's democracy is under threat from a fragmented opposition and the concentration of political power.

They plan to convene a National Council of Opposition Leaders within two weeks to negotiate a common platform and secure a commitment from leaders to prioritize national interest over personal ambitions.
