G-100 Urges Atiku, Obi to Unite for 2027 Elections

A coalition of 100 prominent Nigerians, referred to as G-100, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to set aside their individual ambitions and support a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election. The coalition warned that without a consensus candidate, President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could win again.

This position was outlined in a seven-page open letter dated August 2, 2026, signed by notable figures including Salihu Lukman and Nnenna Ukeje. The G-100 emphasized that Nigeria's democracy is threatened by a weak and divided opposition, which prioritizes personal ambitions over national interest.

They plan to convene a National Council of Opposition Leaders within two weeks to negotiate a common political platform and agree on a consensus candidate, urging opposition leaders to adopt the Ibadan Declaration of April 2026 as a framework for this process.
