Danbature Questions Peter Obi's Northern Support for 2027

The prospects of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, in Northern Nigeria for the 2027 presidential election have sparked debate following comments from Amb. Abdul Danbature, National President of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership.

Danbature stated that Obi cannot become president without the support of Northern youth, accusing him of failing to consult them prior to his presidential announcement. He asserted that Northern Nigeria would favor a candidate who supported former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In response, political analyst Abba Gwale contended that Obi could remain competitive in the North, citing his significant support in the 2023 election, particularly among Northern Christians and young voters. Gwale acknowledged the critical nature of Northern votes in presidential elections but noted that Obi's previous performance indicated a base of support in the region.

He cautioned that the political landscape could change by 2027, affecting voting patterns.
