Sheriff: Northerners Won't Support Obi in 2027 Election

Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed the chances of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party candidate, winning support in Northern Nigeria for the 2027 presidential election. Sheriff made these remarks during a political program aired on Channel Television, where he defended President Bola Tinubu's handling of national security and expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in the next general elections.

He noted that Obi finished third in the 2023 presidential election with six million votes and would struggle to attract Northern support again. Sheriff referenced Obi's tenure as governor of Anambra State, arguing that the political landscape has changed and that grievances from the North would hinder Obi's chances.

He also mentioned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's reservations about political alliances with Obi and reiterated that the APC would continue its campaign vigorously, expecting to maintain power until at least 2031.
