Delta Governor Backs Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has publicly backed President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid for the 2027 presidential election, citing familial connections and the influence of Tinubu's wife, Oluremi Tinubu, who has ancestral ties to Delta State. In an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Oborevwori argued that Tinubu's candidacy is viewed as a family affair by the people of Delta, particularly among the Itsekiri ethnic group.

He asserted that no Itsekiri or Urhobo individual would vote against Tinubu, framing the support as a cultural and familial obligation. Oborevwori also defended Tinubu's administration, highlighting recent economic reforms that have improved revenue allocation to the state.

He expressed confidence that these reforms would yield positive results, despite some skepticism from the public. Additionally, Oluremi Tinubu was conferred a traditional title in Warri Kingdom in February 2026, an event seen as reinforcing cultural ties between the presidency and Delta State, which may influence electoral dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
