Group Urges INEC to Safeguard Electoral Integrity for 2027 Elections

The Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prioritize electoral integrity in preparation for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. In a statement signed by its President, Amb.

Sani S. Bala, the group highlighted the importance of maintaining credible democratic processes amidst the country's challenges, including insecurity and economic hardships.

The group commended the government for its efforts in restoring peace but warned against complacency. It called for collaboration among the executive, legislature, and judiciary to address issues like insecurity and corruption.

The group also expressed concerns about the rapid rise of terrorism, kidnappings, and banditry in southern states, urging a review of the nation's security strategy. Additionally, political parties were urged to avoid vote-buying, rigging, and candidate imposition, while encouraging voter participation and rejecting electoral malpractices.
