Edo Rep Esosa Iyawe Joins NDC After Leaving APC

Esosa Iyawe, a federal lawmaker representing Oredo in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). This decision, effective immediately, was attributed to irreconcilable differences with Edo State Governor Mondai Okpebholo.

Iyawe's resignation was communicated in a letter dated May 6, 2026, addressed to the leadership of APC in Ward 1, Oredo Local Government Area. In the letter, he expressed regret over his decision but stated that personal political reasons compelled him to withdraw his membership from APC and align with the NDC.

He also mentioned that he had previously expressed interest in contesting for a House of Representatives position under the APC platform for the 2027 general elections but has now withdrawn that interest. Iyawe's move is seen as a strategic alignment with his political aspirations in light of the ongoing differences with the governor.
