NDC Denies Illegal Payment Allegations Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) officially denied allegations that its national leader or any party official collected money from aspirants for personal gain, labeling the claims as a coordinated misinformation campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement released on Monday, September 7, by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director Esq, the NDC clarified that all contributions from aspirants, members, and supporters were directed into a designated party account managed by appropriate party organs.

The NDC, as a newly formed party without access to government resources, decided to solicit financial support from members and stakeholders, which is permissible under its constitution. The party emphasized that its presidential and vice-presidential tickets were offered at no cost, reflecting confidence in the candidates selected.

The NDC also stated it would provide a full account of its finances as mandated by the Electoral Act and challenged anyone with evidence of improper payments to come forward. Legal action against those spreading the allegations is being considered.
