ADC Demands Police Accountability Amid Rising Political Violence

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed alarm over increasing political violence against opposition parties in Nigeria as the 2027 general elections approach. At a press conference in Abuja, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi called for the Nigeria Police Force to account for investigations into various attacks on ADC members and political meetings from July 2025 to September 2026.

Abdullahi documented incidents of violence in states including Kaduna, Kebbi, Ekiti, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Osun, Kogi, and Enugu. He specifically mentioned an attack on the ADC secretariat in Benin City, Edo State, in February, and gunfire at the residence of former Edo State governor Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Abdullahi alleged that one ADC member was killed in Rivers State and that armed men disrupted a political gathering in Enugu. He criticized the police for their lack of action in addressing these incidents and emphasized the need for thorough investigations into the violence against lawful political activities.
