Amnesty International Trains Influencers for 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Amnesty International has conducted training for micro-influencers across three geopolitical zones in Nigeria to promote human rights, fact-check information, and counter misinformation. The training program, disclosed by Programmes Manager Barbara Magaji on Tuesday in Abuja, is funded by the German Embassy and aims to equip content creators with the necessary skills to advocate for human rights and demand accountability for rights violations.
The initiative is being piloted in six states, with the micro-influencer component implemented in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, and Enugu, targeting 20 micro-influencers in each state. Magaji emphasized the importance of engaging diverse individuals in human rights advocacy.
Media and Communications Manager Dooshima Tsee highlighted the need for influencers to communicate responsibly, especially given the potential volatility of elections in Nigeria. Beneficiary Tolulope Gbenro described the training as timely, emphasizing its importance for effective advocacy on human rights and civic issues.
