Nigerian Youths Mobilized Against Political Violence Ahead of 2027

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), the United Nations, and the British High Commission have called on Nigerian youths to actively combat political violence, hate speech, and misinformation. This message was delivered during a youth peacebuilding training program organized by the IPCR in Abuja, which aimed to transform young people from passive observers into active agents of conflict prevention.

Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, Director-General of the IPCR, stated that the training is an investment in the future of Nigeria, equipping participants to manage and transform conflicts into opportunities for peace. He emphasized that peacebuilding is a collective responsibility and highlighted the dangers of misinformation, particularly on social media.

Ochogwu urged participants to verify information before sharing and to promote tolerance in their digital interactions, warning that unverified messages could escalate tensions and lead to violence.
