Labour Party Members Defect to ADC in Oyo State Ahead of 2027 Elections

In a significant political development, members of the Labour Party in Oyo State, led by former LP member Aderibigbe Aderoju, have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The state chairman of ADC, Yinka Olona, emphasized the importance of internal democracy and welcomed the new members to support the party's objectives.

The defection was announced during the unveiling of the party in the South Senatorial District of Ibadan South West Local Government Area. Former Minister of Transport advised the ADC to focus on capacity and regional considerations in selecting its flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

Despite reservations, former Governor and ADC chieftain Malam Nasir El Rufai is reportedly considering contesting in the party's presidential primaries. El Rufai has been actively mobilizing grassroots support and preparing for the party's congress.
