INEC Chair Amupitan Advocates Peaceful Elections in 2027

On Sunday, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), visited the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, in Zaria, Kaduna State. During this courtesy visit, part of INEC's nationwide Zonal Readiness Assessment for the 2027 general elections, Amupitan appealed for the Emir's influence in promoting non-violent, issue-based campaigns among political parties and their supporters.
He stressed that elections should not be viewed as do-or-die affairs but as a celebration of civic choice. Amupitan urged the Emir to advise the youth against being used for political violence.
He also encouraged the Zazzau community to engage actively in the electoral process, including collecting Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and voting peacefully. He announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
Amupitan assured that INEC is committed to neutrality and transparency.
