INEC Chairman Amupitan Advocates Peaceful Elections for 2027

On September 27, 2026, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), visited the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.

During this visit, part of INEC's nationwide Zonal Readiness Assessment for the 2027 general elections, Amupitan called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid violence and focus on issue-based campaigns. He emphasized that elections should not be treated as do-or-die affairs but as a celebration of civic choice.

Amupitan urged the Emir to advise the youth against being used as tools for political violence. He also encouraged residents to engage in the electoral process, from collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to voting peacefully.

Amupitan announced that the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, and the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for February 6, 2027. He assured that INEC is committed to neutrality and transparency.
