NDPC Urges Journalists to Uphold Ethics for 2027 Elections

Vincent Olatunji, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), called on journalists to maintain high ethical standards in their reporting as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. This appeal was made during a goodwill message delivered at the 2026 Press Week organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council.

Olatunji emphasized the theme of the event, which focused on defending democracy in an era of misinformation. He noted the increasing influence of digital platforms on information dissemination and the threat posed by the spread of misinformation to public trust in the democratic process.

Olatunji commended journalists for their commitment to responsible journalism and fact-checking, urging them to pay greater attention to data protection and privacy in their reporting. He reiterated the importance of compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 to build public trust and ensure a credible information ecosystem ahead of the elections.
