NDPC Warns Against Tampering with Voter Data for 2027

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), led by Vincent Olatunji, has issued a warning that any individual or organization found tampering with Nigerians' personal data in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections will face legal consequences. In an interview, Olatunji expressed concerns about the growing issues surrounding data privacy and the safety of voter information in Nigeria.

He highlighted that political parties are increasingly collecting large volumes of voter-related data and stressed the necessity for proper safeguards to protect citizens' personal information. Olatunji noted that the NDPC is intensifying efforts to improve awareness and ensure stakeholders understand the legal requirements surrounding data processing.

The commission is engaging with political parties through regular training sessions focused on data handling compliance with Nigeria's data protection laws. Olatunji also pointed out the critical role of traditional institutions in disseminating information and raising awareness about data protection, particularly in rural communities during the election season.
