INEC Promises Credible 2027 Elections Reflecting Voter Will

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that the upcoming 2027 general elections will accurately reflect the will of the electorate. This commitment was articulated by Dr Adejumo Peter, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC’s Kwara State office, during a seminar organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin.

Dr Peter emphasized that INEC will strictly adhere to its guidelines to ensure that every valid vote counts, promoting a one-man, one-vote principle. He dismissed concerns regarding the stockpiling of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stating that technological innovations have rendered such practices ineffective.

He urged political parties to engage in issue-based campaigns and respect the electoral process. Additionally, Atata Abdulfatai, the Head of INEC’s Legal Unit in Kwara State, described the amended Electoral Act 2026 as a crucial advancement for Nigeria’s democracy, aimed at enhancing transparency and internal democracy within political parties while expanding the use of technology in elections.
