INEC Chairman Assures Nigerians on 2027 Election Integrity

On a courtesy visit to General Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, Niger State, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assured Nigerians that every valid vote cast in the upcoming 2027 general elections will be counted.

Amupitan emphasized the commission's commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and peaceful elections. He praised Abdulsalami as a pivotal figure in Nigeria's democratic history and a strong supporter of INEC, referring to him as "the father of democracy in Nigeria." The INEC chairman acknowledged Abdulsalami's leadership of the National Peace Committee and its role in promoting peaceful elections.

He described the Peace Accord initiative as a moral influence on Nigeria's political landscape. Amupitan reaffirmed INEC's determination to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and confirmed that the elections for the President and members of the National Assembly will occur on January 16, 2027.
