INEC Promises Every Valid Vote Will Count in 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that every valid vote will count in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This assurance was provided by Dr Adejumo Peter, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC Kwara State, during a seminar organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin.

Dr Peter stated that INEC would strictly adhere to its rules and procedures to ensure that the elections are conducted fairly, based on the principle of one person, one vote. He dismissed the notion that collecting or hoarding Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) could influence election outcomes, citing technological advancements that prevent such tactics.

Additionally, he urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid violence. At the seminar, Atata Abdulfatai, Head of INEC’s Legal Unit in Kwara State, described the amended Electoral Act 2026 as a significant step towards enhancing Nigeria’s democratic process, introducing reforms for improved transparency and technology use in elections.
